MG 07 – Launched in China

For 159,000 Yuan or around 42,000 New Zealand dollars you can now buy the range topping MG 07 EV 845 Flagship Edition that comes with a 91kWh battery pack delivering more than 640km WLTP range. This could provide serious competition to the Tesla Model 3 Premium Long Range spec that offers a 750km WLTP range and can be yours for NZ$74,257 at the time of publishing this post. Nissan PIXO – Launched in Europe

Nissan has launched a super compact electric car in partnership with Renault that will be available across dealerships in Europe from the beginning of 2027. This smart EV equipped with a 27.5kWh LFP battery will offer a 259km WLTP range and a built-in Google Gemini infotainment suite. (Image source: Nissan Global)

Chevrolet Captiva EV – Launched in Brazil

After a successful launch in Ecuador last year the Captiva EV is now available in Brazil. This cousin of the Chinese made Wuling Starlight S is being shipped from China in a SKD form (semi knocked down) and assembled in Chevy’s factory in Ceará. Powered by a 60kWh LFP battery, the Captiva EV offers a 400km WLTP range and priced at Brazilian Real 199,000 (NZ$68,000).

Toyota BZ4X Touring and Hilux BEV – Launched in New Zealand

The gruntier AWD version of the previously launched BZ4X is available in New Zealand since May. The Subaru Outback inspired side profile works well with me but that is my personal choice. Also launched this May and somewhat late to the party, the Toyota Hilux is now available in a fully electric version and Kiwis can place an order through their local Toyota dealership. With a modest system output of 144kW and fitted with a 59kW battery offering 200km WLTP range the Hilux BEV is designed to be an ideal urban workhorse. Toyota has sold 477 electric vehicles in New Zealand this year which is almost three times of what their BEV sales in 2024 when the BZ4X was launched here. The burning question is if the Hilux BEV can dominate the NZ auto sales as it’s ICE cousin did. We will have to find out. (Image source: Toyota NZ)
